Antarctica
The White Heart of the Earth
Organised on the occasion of the International Polar Year (IPY), this stimulating photo exhibition takes its audience on a trip through the extraordinary landscapes of the Antarctic, a continent which is one and a half times the size of Europe and lies 800 m under sea level, buried beneath two enormous ice blocks.
The pictures also illustrate the flora and fauna of the continent and of the Australian Ocean surrounding it, as well as the daily life of scientists in the stations of the Antarctic, thus reminding us that Antarctica is the only place on Earth where no war has ever been fought, where you don’t need a passport, and where international cooperation is the rule and not the exception.
