Is Science Universal? - (In French)

Jean-Marc Lévy-Leblond. Introduces: Enrico Beltrametti

It is commonly thought that science is one of the human achievements (or perhaps even the only one) that can claim to be universal, independent from culture, language and specific historical contexts. Starting with some examples, physicist Jean-Marc Lévy-Leblond shows that this idea should be reconsidered. The production of knowledge is undoubtedly a quality belonging to all human societies, but the forms and functions of this knowledge have undergone so many changes that considering science universal does not do justice to the richness of its cultural diversity.
