OLED light, Phantastic light!
About efficient organic lighting and its impact on design

Solid State Lighting (SSL) - the direct conversion of energy into light - is seen as the future of lighting. This novel type of lighting is long living, energy efficient and much smaller than the current lighting solutions. By now, inorganic Light Emitting Diodes (LEDs) are penetrating the market in various ways. But there is another SSL light source under development, the Organic LEDs (OLEDs). OLEDs are the first flat light sources, not thicker than a glass plate. They can be made in all shapes you like, can be made transparent and in the future also made on flexible substrates. Besides that, OLEDs give a pleasant, high quality light and can be made in all colors and several types of white light. Within the European funded project OLLA, OLED technology is further developed into a valid lighting technology.
In this presentation several question will be answered:
- How do OLEDs work?
- What are the benefits of OLED lighting?
- How can OLEDs be applied?
- What will be the impact on design for future lighting?
Besides the presentation, some recent OLED lighting research demonstrators will be shown.
The presentation will be done in English. Italian information material will be made available.
