Linguistic Diversities in Europe - (In French)
A Strength or Weakness for the Geopolitical Future of the Old Continent?

The problem of linguistic diversity is a crucial issue for Europe nowadays.
Today, the European Union has 23 official languages and at least 60 other languages are spoken on its territory. Too often, public opinion still doesn’t see this linguistic diversity as an asset, but rather as a weakness.
Therefore, the creation of new instruments becomes an urgent need in order to heighten the awareness of what exactly such a linguistic diversity represents.
In this conference the speakers will present an international project to the audience devoted to the protection of European linguistic diversity by means of the new tools offered by the LEM portal (Languages of Europe and of the Mediterranean). The main purpose of this website is to carry out high-level research accessible to the general public. This forum will explain how this initiative can help to achieve the set aims in favour of linguistic diversity.
These aims have recently been reaffirmed by the European Parliament and the European Commission.
